Montessori Method of Education
The essence of independence is to be able to do something for one’s self. Adults work to finish a task, but the child works in order to grow, and is working to create the adult, the person that is to be. Such experience is not just play, it is work he must do in order to grow up.
The Montessori Method
We offer the children breakfast, lunch and tea, with healthy snacks and drinks available. Food is available whenever your child needs, just like home. Children have opportunity to prepare their meals and to help lay the table, with cutlery, crockery, glasses, and even a vase of flowers. Meal times are a social occasion in which children of all mixed ages and staff sit together to enjoy the freshly cooked food or a packed lunch, serving each other and supporting a positive mealtime experience.
Montessori classrooms provide a prepared environment where children are free to respond to their natural tendency to work, they self-access activities and material in response to their own interests.
The children’s innate passion for learning is encouraged by giving them opportunities to engage in spontaneous, purposeful activities with the guidance of a trained adult.
Through their work, the children develop concentration and self-discipline and progress at their own pace and rhythm, according to their individual capabilities.
Why choose Montessori education?
Maria Montessori pioneered the Montessori Method of Education early this century. In developing this method of education she combined a philosophy with a practical approach based on the idea of freedom and independence for the child but within a structured environment. The Montessori Method takes into consideration the child’s physical, intellectual, emotional and social abilities and develops these in a specially prepared environment. What is most unique about the method is the detailed emphasis given to sensorial experiences, developing the five senses and providing a solid foundation for speech, writing and arithmetic.
What we do at Bardfield Montessori?
We offer an opportunity for children to learn, develop and meet their individual needs using the Montessori method of education. The environment is entirely child-centred and the team of dedicated, experienced and qualified staff work with every child following their natural development.
We actively encourage the use of the large outside area, allowing children to choose the environment best suited to them. The children grow their own vegetables, fruits and flowers, they care for the pets, giving them an understanding of the fundamental needs of living things. They have the opportunity to spend time learning in a forest school in our onsite wood, working very closely with nature. Children take part in practical life activities, like assist the nursery cook in preparing the lunch in our children’s kitchen. Bardfield Montessori is a community led setting, promoting mixed age group environments.
‘Learning the correct answers will get a child through school, but learning how to learn is a preparation for life’
